Jennifer and Guadalupe Lopez (Pacific Coast News) Back in 2004, Jennifer Lopez was in a high-profile relationship, A.K.A. "Bennifer", with Ben Affleck, who's since started a happy little family with Jennifer Garner. Lopez's mom, Guadalupe, adored Affleck at the time – and word has it over the last few weeks she even confided in her daughter's ex for advice about the singer's troubled marriage to Marc Anthony.
Here's the story via rumorville: Lopez's mom reached out to Affleck on July 25th via email, seeking advice for her daughter. A source told People: "She always liked and trusted him. [Ben] replied back on email, wished her well and offered what he could."
Looking back, both Lopez and Affleck's mothers have had considerable influence over their children's romantic lives. Just three days after the supposed email exchange, Lopez and Anthony ended their marriage. Though it's hard to say if the emails actually happened (or affected the outcome), Affleck and Guadalupe have a history of mutual affection, so it's not totally inconceivable.
Here's a look back at how J.Lo and Affleck's moms have affected their love lives:
November 11, 2002: Lopez told People, "My mother loves Ben. She loves him. [Before they met] I was like, 'Look, she never really likes anybody I'm with, so be prepared.' And he was like, 'Okay.' But he won her over in true Affleck fashion."
October 18, 2002: On the other hand, Affleck's mom wasn't so taken by J.Lo: "Chris is not dissimilar to most mothers. She is very worried about the fact Jennifer already has had two husbands and was married to both for less than a year," the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
September 18, 2003: According to Us, Affleck called off his wedding to J.Lo after a phone conversation with his mom. "The mother was a factor. She was worried her son would be living in a fish bowl. It's very clear Ben was the one who broke it off with J.Lo. First he called off the wedding and the next day, he called off the relationship," the magazine reported.
Clearly, the influence of their respective matriarchs played a role in these former lovebirds' lives, and if rumors are true, they still may. Perhaps mother does know best.
