I need to choose my classes next year based solely on which ones don't have WiFi in the classrooms.  Otherwise I need to change my major to online shopping.  Which I would be amazing at.  Here are my two favorite things I found today:


Elizabeth & James Odila Leather and Glossed-twill Bell Skirt, $465 at net-a-porter.com, Emma Cook Feather Print Silk Crepe de Chine Dress, $620 at net-a-porter.com: This skirt is HOT.  I love me an a-line skirt under any circumstances, but this one is extra fab because of the built-in leather belt with all its geometric cut outs.  The sheen of the leather and the interesting texture put all the emphasis on your waist, and the flair of the a-line skirt makes your waist look tiny.  Doesn't the flower print on this dress look real?  That's why I like it.  It looks like a $1,000 dress covered in real feather, but instead it's a $600 dress that balances a vibrant, textural print with a clean, simple silhouette perfectly.  It's such a statement in and of itself.

YSL Tribute Patent-leather Sandals, $795 at net-a-porter.com: Hello, darlings.  Please find your way to my tree this weekend.  Thanks.  They're fabulous because they're the standard YSl Tribute shape, which is versatile but very wearable with just a hint of stripper heel, but then they're done in that amazing purple patent leather.  The high sheen makes them feel very luxe, and the jewel-toned of the purple is so unexpected and fun, but not so bright that you'll never wear them.


Long story short: perfection in a platform.

What I'd Like to Be Wearing Right Now

This week.  Finals.  Gah.  Bleh.  Grrrr.  And all variety of upset childish noises.  My brain feels like it's self-imploding AND it's not even over yet.  I feel gross.  So, this is what I'd like to be wearing right now:


This Rachel Gilbert Danae Embellished Silk-Chiffon Gown, $1,360 at net-a-porter.com: It's pretty.  It's really, REALLY sparkly, and it's floaty, and a pretty shade of off-white and so Glinda the Good Witch in a great, modern way.  No matter how annoying and gross you feel, you put on a dress like this and you feel like a princess.  I die.




Juicy Couture Faux Fur-trimmed Wool-blend Cardigan, $330 at net-a-porter.com: Of course, realistically with my cold and the fact that I've holed up on the couch in a ploy to block out the brutal Spanish Lit final I had earlier, I'd really like to be wearing this warm, cuddly sweater.  It has a removable faux-fur trimmed collar and a bathrobe-like waist tie, and is basically a lot of steps up from wrapping yourself in a blanket and calling it a day.  Which may or may not be what I'm doing.

Dear Burberry,


Please stop making ridiculously gorgeous coats.  Especially ridiculously gorgeous coats in a beautiful dove grey and a soft, plush wool with elegant ruffles at the hem.  Like this Burberry trench from Net-A-Porter than is half of what I earned all last summer.





Please stop making trenches that say "I am both edgy and feminine, chic and practical, ridiculously expensive but also insanely versatile."  Because you will drain my bank account faster than you can say "French girl chic" if you continue.

LANVIN FOR H&M

The full Lanvin for H&M preview video finally dropped today.  HolyChristianLouboutins.  That is all I have to say.  It's bananas.  I love that they decided to really make it look Lanvin.  It's not Lanvin lite or mass-market Lanvin, it looks like the real deal.  And the accessories--be still, my heart.  The bow-tipped heels are calling to me.  Click on the picture for a link to the video, and click here for pieces from the collection.  It hits stores November 20.  If it doesn't come to Boston I may actually throw a tantrum.

My Precious

So Reed Krakoff is the creative director (or something along those lines) of Coach.  Yes, the handbag brand.  I know.  He's also recently branched out into doing his own line.  It's not really my style, but some of the accessories are flat out ridiculous.  Like these boots.


Reed Krakoff Python Knee-High Boots, $1,895 at net-a-porter.com: These are my babies.  Well, not really my babies because I don't own them, but I want them to be my babies.  There are so many things I like here I don't even know where to start.  I love the neutral color palette, and how the taupey-grey is used to accent the beige python.  It's a very Celine color palette.  I like the combination of the sexy lace-up front and the Oxford-esque toe cap.  I love the stacked wood heels.  I love that these would work equally well with slim jeans as they would with bare legs, and would transition from daytime to nighttime so perfectly. The only thing I don't like here?  The price tag.  Boo on that price tag.

Spring 2011 Bridal Fashion Week

It's that time of year again--BRIDAL FASHION WEEK.  Aka that time of year where I feel justified in my cravings to stare at fluffy white dresses.  I thought I'd share some of them with y'all.  They're a good pre-humpday pick-me-up.


Angel Sanchez, Oscar de la Renta: If this Angel Sanchez gown had a sweetheart neckline, it would be on my body.  Aaah.  I love the flow of the bodice into the soft a-line skirt, and the way that the line details cascade from the bodice into the skirt.  I wouldn't really want to wear this second dress on my wedding day, but I really like it for other things.  Like the red carpet (because I'm on that all the time).  It reminds me of Marie Antoinette with the front ribbon/bow combo and the micro-pleats.  That pale pink hue is too pretty.  I love blush wedding dresses.  It's such a refreshing difference from the usual off-whites and creams.



Vera Wang: I have to say, I'm really warming up to Vera Wang.  I like how she uses black accents to take something that could be a bit too romantic and sweet, like this first gown, and give it a bit of an unexpected edge.  The way that the pleats on the bodice cascade down into that sea of ruffles is just so perfect.  It honestly looks like a cloud of rose petals.  If you want to feel like a fairy princess on your wedding day, that's the dress for you.  For a more classic look, this mermaid gown is so chic and timeless.  The cut itself is simple and flattering, and then you get the little details of the stripes in the skirt and the layers of tulle that take it from boring and safe to pared-down and sophisticated. 




Marchesa: Marchesa.  Drool.  I mean, what can you really say?  Brain explosion due to excessive pretty.  These are my two favorite silhouettes--fishtail and a-line ballgown.  The mermaid dress has such dramatic lines--it would almost be too much if the dress itself wasn't so simple.  The micro-pleating adds just enough visual interesting, and the floral decorations give it an organic twist that helps it all from being too pretty.  I love how fluffy the second dress is!  I just want to spin around in that skirt forever.  This dress is similar to the first Marchesa in that it also has a dramatic silhouette, but the dress itself is on the plainer side.  The subtle detailing that concentrates at the bodice and fades down into the skirt is very McQueen, no?

Hello, Dream Dress

This is ridiculously random, but sometimes I think to play a little game with myself.  It goes something along the lines of, if I could any have designer purse right now, which would it be?  Same for shoes, jewelry, dresses, etc, etc.  I have built up a very extensive dream wardrobe.


The latest addition to my dream wardrobe is this fall 2010 Versus dress.  Versus is the collaboration between Versace and Christopher Kane, and basically my clothing soulmate.  I heart this dress.  The cut is extremely flattering--just the right amount of emphasis on the bust, a fitted waist, and that fab, flared out a-line skirt.  Then you add in the lingerie inspiration and the subtle contrast between colors and textures of the bordeaux velvet and the black satin.  It's so sweetly retro and yet so intensely vampy at the same time.  I can't find it for sale online, but I'm guessing it's between $2,000 and $3,000, so probably not a realistic choice.  All the same, I die.




Christian Louboutin Rolandzip Suede Pumps, $795 at net-a-porter.com, Christian Louboutin Palais Royal Clutch, $2,565 at net-a-porter.com: I'd pair it with these Christian Louboutin pumps.  I wouldn't want anything that would distract too much from the dress, so these basic black pumps are great.  The zipper running down the heel adds just enough spice to keep them from being boring.  Since there's so much edginess going on, I like the girly contrast of this clutch.  The silver hardware ties in with the detail on the heels, the pink works with the red of the dress, and the lace goes with the overall slightly Victorian Gothic theme.




Gaaah, it's killing me.  Do y'all have any dream pieces?

I need a break from fashion week, y'all.  Don't get me wrong, I love looking at fashion week and writing about fashion week, but it's so easy to get fashion week burnout.  So London coverage will start tomorrow, but today will be lovely and random.  Enjoy!

Marc by Marc Jacobs Fantastical Tale Strass Cat Ring, $78 at shopbop.com, Rebecca Minkoff Kiss Bag, $345 at shopbop.com, Helmut Lang Denim Square Shoulder Shearling Jacket, $795 at shopbop.com: This cat ring is so ugly that I almost like it.  It reminds me of the Siamese cats from Lady and the Tramp (love), and it looks so evil and cunning and twisty-tailed.  I think I'm convincing myself that I like this.  But y'all know that I love wearing jewelry with small animals on it (hence my parrot AND beetle rings).  How adorable is that bag?  Any bag with a frame shape and a kiss-lock wins me over with its cuteness, and when you add in the bit of edge from the studs and the chain strap, and the boho twist of the tassel, it becomes the perfect storm of classic chic and modern trendy.  It's also a convenient little size and the handy over the shoulder/across the bag construction makes it very easy to wear as a day-to-day bag.  Shearling and military are going to be (and have been) two huge trends for the next season or so.  This jacket perfectly marries the two, and makes them practical in a durable, cotton blend shell.  The cut of the jacket is very motorcycle meets aviator jacket, the color is the quintessential military olive, and the shearling is a little aviator and a little wintery wonderland.  It's warm, and on-trend, and actually practical.

Lusting After: Celine Luggage bags

I try not to fall in love with trendy bags.  You start to adore something ridiculously expensive, and by the time you have enough money saved up to actually get it, it's not in style anymore.

I think this Celine Luggage bag is a nice exception.  It's popular at the moment, sure, but it's not trendy.  It's very simple, classic, and practical bag (thank you, Phoebe Philo), that works for various styles and outfits.  It's not wallet friendly at around $2,000, but comes in an array of colors and finishes.  My favorite is the little black one on top, but the leopard print is very fab, and the cobalt blue is just drop dead chic.



Isn't it fab?  It's big enough to carry everything, but not bulky, and it's a little downtown meets Birkin bag.  Sigh.

Random Back To School Cravings

Alright y'all, live blogging begins on Monday, this is the last pre-scheduled post.  By this time, I'm back at school, but I know a lot of people haven't started school yet, so I thought it'd be fun to put together a few fashion-forward, practical back to school pieces.

Totes:

J. Crew Rhodie Tote, $375 at jcrew.com, Juicy Couture Exquisite Mess Tote, $78 at shopbop.com: As far as I'm concerned, you can go two ways with totes.  You can get a large leather bag, or you can get a big canvas tote.  Either way, it can still be adorable.  You want something big enough to hold your laptop and text books, but not so gigantic that it looks like a duffel bag.  If you're going the leather bag route, I like this J. Crew tote.  It's cute enough just to be used as a purse, with it's slightly vintage feel and nicely worn-in leather, but it's big enough to fit all the essentials, and then some.  Plus, it has handy pockets for things like pens, pencils, calculators, cell phones, etc.  If you're feeling a canvas tote, this Juicy Couture tote is adorable.  It has an equally slouchy feel, which goes really nicely with the girly pink hue and graffiti-esque bow on the corner.  It also has a variety of pockets inside for organizational purposes, and since it's such a light pink, it would go with a ton of outfits.



Coats:

J. Crew Wool-Cashmere Icon Trench, $325 at jcrew.com, J. Crew Colleta Coat, $298 at jcrew.com: If you're going to school in a cold place, you'll need a nice coat.  I'd really recommend spending a little more to get a well-made, versatile coat that'll last you all of college, and keep you warm in the process.  If you're into iconic staple pieces, this trench is a great option.  It has all the versatility of a basic camel colored trench, but it comes in a wool-cashmere blend, making it extra warm and extra cozy.  If you like more lady-like silhouettes, this Colleta coat is perfect.  It has a single row of buttons, a cinched waist, a slightly flaired shirt, and cute little cuffs, plus it comes in fun colors like plum and navy.



Shoes:

Frye Kira Low Top Sneakers, $82.60 at shopbop.com, Dolce Vita Harrison Suede Oxford Booties, $188 at jcrew.com: Shoes very important.  You don't have room for a ton of shoes in college dorm rooms, so you need to get a lot of wear and impact out of each pair.  I'm really feeling slightly fancy sneakers, like these Frye Low Tops.  They're practical for walking all over the place, but the leather makes them a little more appropriate for nicer situations, like dinners or campus events.  I've warmed up to booties as of late, because they really are the perfect type of heels for colder climates.  They cover your feet and are easy to layer with socks and tights, but they aren't as bulky as actual boots.  I love this pair because of the sueded texture and Oxford styling, which adds a fun, His Girl Friday touch, and the interesting silhouette of the heel gives these an extra punch of uniqueness.

If My Skin Liked Me, I Would...

I don't know if y'all have noticed, but I don't do much on skincare.  I do a lot on fashion and on beauty, just because I love them both, but skincare...ack.  My skin has never been predictable, or particularly nice to me, but it's finally started to be LESS evil.  So I'm sticking to my boring, basic skincare routine like freaking hot glue, but if my skin was nice to me (crazy thoughts) here are some of the fun skincare products I'd use.  This is also in the imaginary would where I have money to literally burn, FYI.

Kiehls Panthenol Protein Moisturizing Face Cream, $26 at kiehls.com, Kiehls Yerba Mate Tea Cleanser, $20.50 at kiehls.com, Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque, $23 at kiehls.com: I used to have this Kiehls moisturizer early on in high school, and I remember totally loving it.  Not sure why I didn't repurchase it...hm...It's extremely rich and moisturizing, and never broke me out.  Now I use the Cetaphil cream, which is basically a cheaper, slightly less moisturizing version of the same time, but I'll always have fond memories of this little tub.  I've never been a toner person, mainly because of scarring memories of that 'Seabreeze' toner when I was little (ACK), but this Yerba Mate toner sounds fab.  First off, it's full of tea.  I love tea.  Tea can never be bad.  It sounds like it would be a great thing to put under your moisturizer if you tend to get oily by the middle of the day, as tea has great oil-cutting properties.  I had a sample of this Rare Earth mask and totally loved it.  It has exfoliating particles in it that lift off dead skin cells, and then it's full of different sorts of clay, which drag all the gunk out of your pores.  It smells and looks a little nasty, but hey, it works.



Clarisonic Mia, $149 at sephora.com, MD Skincare Alpha Beta Peels, $78 at sephora.com: I want a Clarisonic.  I want one so freaking badly.  For those of you that don't stalk the Sephora website obsessively--what's that like? lol--Clarisonics are basically brushes for your face.  They use sonic pulses to get the gunk out of your pores, and the brush lifts off dead skin cells and exfoliates them away, leaves your skin super duper clean and baby smooth.  Plus, this one is portable, and pink, and cheaper than the original, which is always a plus.  Back before Retin-A Micro ruined my skin (no bitterness there), I was a huge, huge fan of acid.  Not that kind of acid, the alpha and beta acids you can use on your face.  They're like enzymes, in that they exfoliate deeply without any of the scrubbing motions that can irritate sensitive skin.  This little set is like a glycolic acid peel done slowly, over a month.  It disposes of acne and dark spots and makes your skin all pretty and happy. 



Caudalie Beauty Elixir, $46 at sephora.com, Peter Thomas Roth Radiance Oxygenating Serum, $65 at sephora.com: I think mists like this and Evian water are so silly, but they're also so fun and glam in a retro sort of way.  Can you imagine whipping that little bottle out of your purse on a hot day?  So refreshing, plus there are supposedly extracts and antioxidants that do nice things to your skin, so it's a win-win.  I'm not really sure what this Oxygenating serum is supposed to do, but adding oxygen to my skin sounds nice, and a serum sounds moisturizing, and it's Peter Thomas Roth, so it must be good.  It's also $65 for one ounce, so I'm assuming it's awesome and would make my face look like I spent all day taking baths in rose petals.  Or something along those lines.

Vacay Thoughts

So if y'all haven't noticed, I've set up these posts a few weeks ahead of time to go live while I'm in vacay, because while I love you all, I don't want to be blogging on the beach at Hawaii.  It's called vacay for a reason.  But anyways, here are some things I'm pondering:

Alexander Wang Amber Notebook Clutch, $625 at shopbop.com, Rebecca Taylor Alligator Print T-shirt, $125 at net-a-porter.com: Okay, I'd never buy this clutch, but I just think it's so hilarious.  It's made to look like a spiral notebook, and the spiral is a hinge that opens up to reveal a bunch of compartments and pockets.  You have to admit that it's clever and cheeky in a way that only Alexander Wang can do.  The same goes for this croc-printed tee.  I just love the idea of this.  It looks all basic and neutral from a distance, but then you get up close and BAM, it's crazy croc print.  I've never seen anything like this before.  Pair that with a pair of jeans and some leather boots and wow, you have an amazingly chic, simple outfit.



Buxom Chronicles Lipgloss Set, $28 at sephora.com, Juicy Couture Gen Y Toile Tote, $78 at zappos.com: Math time.  The full sized Buxom glosses are $17, and you get the amount of two full sized glosses with these four mini glosses.  Two full sized glosses cost $34, so you're saving $6 and you get a wide variety of colors.  That's a good deal, and I really like how the colors run from nice and neutral (Katie) to vampy (Violetta).  If I had the extra cash lying around to replace my perfectly good tote bag for school, I'd get this Juicy Couture bag.  I'm pathetically obsessed with quirky toile like this, it's a nice shape and size, and it has lots of convenient pockets inside.  I know the pattern is intense, but the neutral color palette makes it more versatile than it looks.



Maybelline Full 'n Soft Waterproof Mascara, L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara: It's pathetic, but mascara terrifies me.  I found one mascara that I absolutely adore, Max Factor Volume Couture Waterproof, and of course it's not being sold in the US anymore.  It's 100% waterproof but comes off with remover easily, never smudges or flakes, adds just enough volume and length with one clump-free coat, and is basically just awesome.  I have dry eyes and wear contacts, which means lots of eye drops, and all the other waterproof mascaras I've tried have run away (literally) in fear in the face of those eye drops.  Ugh.  I've been doing some Makeupalley research on drugstore mascaras (I refuse to buy designer mascara, they've all failed me so badly), and Maybelline Full 'n Soft Waterproof and L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof keep coming up.  They're both affordable, and seem to get good reviews.  Have any of y'all tried these?  I'm leaning towards Full 'n Soft, but I'm just so torn about it all.

Underwear as Outerwear

I know it's going to be campy and silly, but I'm really excited to see Easy A, which comes out in September.  It's a modern version of the Scarlet Letter, and all the social stereotypes aside, I'm loving the wardrobe.  Emma Stone wears a LOT of bustier tops with jeans and skirts to school.  I think they're trying to prove a point about how she acts like a whore, but...I really like the whole bustier as outerwear thing.  I would actually totally wear it.




I think to tone down the sexy-factor for real life/daytime, I'd pair a buster with a high-waisted skirt and style it down, rough it up a bit more with menswearish accessories.  I rounded up a few bustiers that might work outside the bedroom below:

J. Crew Liberty Bustier Cami, $159.99 at jcrew.com, Arden B. Pinstripe Lace Trim Bustier, $19.50 at ardenb.com: J. Crew delivers with an adorable, girly meets preppy meets vintage-inspired bustier that would be perfect for the girl that wants to try a bustier top, but is sort of terrified by the idea.  And you can always layer a tee underneath, even if it kind of contradicts the point of wearing a bustier in the first place.  If you're totally on board with the bustier idea and ready to go all out, this Arden B. bustier fits the bill (and the bill, by the way, is crazy low).  It's a little French Maid-ish, but it could be styled down with a cute cardigan and an a-line skirt to be more wearable.



Surreptious Corset, $68 at anthropologie.com, Bustier Set, $58 at victoriassecret.com: This Anthropologie corset is my favorite, and the fave of one my blogger friends, Caroline over at ChicCred.  It's so Parisian Chic a la Moulin Rouge, refined but insanely sexy in a mysterious, girly way.  All those little bows would be adorable peeking out over the top of a pencil skirt.  I die.  For a more retro look, this Victoria's Secret bustier is fab.  I've been craving this one for ever (you also get a garter belt with it...just FYI?), and the contrast of the red with the lace-up sides and the bows is just too cute.  It also comes in pink with black polka dots, for a less intense look.



La Perla Lace-Back Bustier, $332 at saks.com, Pins and Needles Floral Bustier Bodysuit, $38 at urbanoutfitters.com: How could I do a bustier round-up without including La Perla?  No possible.  It looks boring from the front, but the back is all white lace, perfect for making an entrance and an exit.  I'd pair this with a navy blue pencil skirt, just to keep it really simple and have all the focus on the back.  I know this last one is a bodysuit, but worn with a high-waisted skirt it just looks like a bustier.  I like the combination of the floral print and the lingerie cut, a little bit grunge and a little bit Lolita.



Topshop Lace Pocket Cupro Skirt, 38 Euros at topshop.com, Topshop Zippy Flippy Skirt, 30 Euros at topshop.com: I'd pair two types of skirts with this: either a pencil skirt, preferably one with a little volume, and an a-line skirt.  If you go for something to short or too tight, you'll end up looking expensive...in a bad way.  Not that there's anything wrong with looking like a high-priced escort, because I'm sure they have great clothes, but maybe not at lunchtime.  This first skirt is very demure, in a grown-up, elegant way.  The lace trim ties into the boudoir feel, and the volume at the hips balances out all the fitted sexiness of the bustier top perfectly.  To go for a younger, more festive vibe, I'd try an a-line skirt like this one.  The flippiness of the skirt contracts with the bustier, and the zippers add a bit of an edge to contrast with all the girliness on top.
